So many different watercolor brands.

I've been using M. Graham & Co. artists' watercolor paints. This weekend, while tidying up in the studio, I came across a box with more tubes of M. Graham (colors that I don't use regularly and not part of my current palette) and other brands. There are so many different brands both student and artist grade like M. Graham, Schmincke, Holdbein, Winsor & Newton, Cotman, Grumbacher, Mijello, Van Gogh, and many more. Do you find yourself favoring certain brand over another? Which ones are your favorites?

Found this watercolor painting in one of my sketchbooks this weekend (still trying to clean up the studio).  I felt that I wasn't getting the likeness at the time I was working on it but...

Old sketches, old drawings, old paintings... looking through old sketchbooks.

Looking through old sketchbooks, old sketches, old drawings, old paintings...
Trying to get myself to want to sketch, draw, and paint again.

Sketches / Drawings of trees from old sketchbooks.

I used to draw trees a lot...
Between classes, around the neighborhood, backyard, and at the park in the weekends.

Tutorial... drawing to painting of THE JOKER (step by step)

This was a quick drawing / painting of the Joker so I didn't really take time to take a bunch of pictures of the in between steps.

1. Quick pencil drawing.

2. Started painting with light washes of watercolor (red and black).

3. Finished painting of THE JOKER.

My swatches for M. Graham & Co. artists' watercolor paints.

I made my swatches 2.5" x 3.5" in size so that I can store them in those Ultra Pro 9-pockets trading card plastic sheets. I have a lot of these since I use them for my art cards (ACEO, ATC, sketch cards).

When (In Purple) watercolor painting (step by step)

When (In Purple)
watercolor painting
(step by step)

1. Light quick sketch.

2. First light wash of black watercolor. I decided to start with a gray scale underpainting with this piece before putting on the colors.

3. Building up with the second layer of grays.

4. With darker grays.

5. More layers...

6. Now with the blacks.

7. Light washes with yellow and purple...

8. Another layer of colors.

9. Darker layers of yellow, purple, and some blues.

10. Darkest layers. I did use some watercolor pencils for some strands of hair.

FINISHED PAINTING

One of my favorite sketches ever...

Just a quick sketch on a sketchbook with brownish paper but it's one of my favorites.
Do most artists have favorites from their own body of work? Do they sometimes have difficulties letting them go?!? :/

Watercolor painting of Darth Maul (step by step)

I found this piece of paper with the red mark already with some blacks. Instead of scrapping it I decided to use it for a painting of Darth Maul.

1. Quick light sketch with graphite for the size/placement. More black paint.

2. Drawing with heavier lines of Darth Maul.

3. First layer with light washes of red, purple, and black.

4. Second layer with darker red and black. Yellow for the eye.

5. More layers to build up the painting. Added some whites.
